![]() ![]() It does not seem like it'd be too much work to do it.Īlso, beeing able to play with all the characters in the franchise in all the games sounds epic combined with Encore mode, and maybe a Heroes mode (3 cicling characters - by team), and an Advance mode (2nd character modifies habilities of 1st character) it'd be just epic. Also, a backwards (right to left) mode it'd be nice. I'd love to see Sonic 1, 2, 3 & K be added like new playable campaigns, they could even add the Advance games, maybe even the NDS ones. I'd love to play with the other characters and new modes. Maybe if they open up modding, someone could add the characters themselves. They wouldn't need to add new gameplay, just the new characters each with a special. Get the Encore DLC to experience the all-new Encore Mode, two new playable characters Mighty and Ray, and four player Competition Mode. The Sonic Mania Encore DLC is available on Steam and Humble now for £4/5€/$5, and requires the original game.Originally posted by Koro:I kinda think if would be fun to just release a DLC with other playable characters, particularly Amy, Shadow, and Rouge, and maybe a second with the Chaotix, and then maybe a third with Blaze, Cream, and Silver. I promise it's good, even if it does acknowledge (very briefly) that Sonic Forces is part of Mania's continuity. Better still, Sega have smooshed all five episodes into the video above, so stay a while and watch some cartoons. So far, Encore mode feels just fresh enough to make a second trip through Mania feel fresh again, and that's just fine by me.Īccompanying the DLC is the last episode of the charming little Sonic Mania Adventures animated series. I've not yet managed to reach the top of it, but I'm eager to see if anything lurks up there. The old pseudo-3D maze bonus game is gone, replaced with a 3D pinball table that scrolls upwards through several sets of flippers. There's a few extra surprises in there, including some entirely new routes for the new characters to open up. I feel that with Advance (which fairness was limited by technology), Sonic 4 and the attempts at what is now known as 'Classic Sonic' in both Generations and Forces, a lot of the criticism stems from the play style - mostly the physics - diverging from the original series. If you die with a new buddy, you're warped instantly back to the start of the level with them gone (until you can recover them via bonus stages) and replaced with Tails again. Once rescued, Ray and Mighty can replace Tails, and control can be swapped between Sonic and his new buddy of choice a button press. While I'd not describe it as cruel yet, a couple zones in and Encore mode definitely feels like it's ramping up the hurt, featuring fewer rings, more traps and around twice as many enemies.Īfter a short new level set in Sonic 3's Angel Island Zone, Encore mode introduces a new twist. The levels felt designed to feel satisfying to speed through, but seldom challenging. I've played a few stages of it, and have had a ton of fun so far. A remixed, re-lit and harder second trip through the game with some new story and surprises. For a decent chunk of the game (particularly Act 1 in familiar zones) youre playing. Now it's delivering an encore performance as DLC today. Part of the new Sonic Mania Plus re-release, the Encore DLC lets us existing owners ride again. It features two new playable characters but the real main event is the titular Encore Mode. At its core Sonic Mania is partly a love-letter to the original games, a remix but also a new experience. Sonic Mania brought back Sega's blue hedgehog in style, fully deserving of applause.
